New Farm Piddington Fly-In

I had the good fortune to attend the Shadow / X-Air fly-in and barbecue at New Farm, Piddington over the weekend. A really good turnout – I think there were 35 visiting aircraft in total over the course of the day.

Lighting conditions were best described as challenging. Runway 27 was in use, so everything was taking off and landing into the sun, which as I’m sure keen photographers reading this will appreciate, isn’t ideal.

In hindsight, I should probably have made my way up to the other end of the field, but that would have taken me away from the BBQ, and that would be bad :-).

I hope to be back next year somewhat earlier in the day when the sun might be behind me instead…

2014 travel now online

Yeah, this gallery has been badly neglected over the last few years, so I’ve been gradually processing and uploading some of my travel work from 2014.

A few days in Belfast for the UK Network Operators’ Forum gave me a chance to explore the dockyards where HMS Caroline is moored (last surviving vessel from the Battle of Jutland) and spent a day doing the traditional ‘touristy’ things: Giants’ Causeway, Titanic Museum, etc.

2014 was also the year I finally managed to get down to Chinatown in London for the Chinese New Year celebrations, and another $dayjob trip took me to Docklands, thus giving me a chance to use the cable car at long last.

MinamiCon 2017 photos online

MinamiCon was a strange one for me this year. $dayjob commitments being as they were, I wasn’t even sure if I’d get to Minami at all, so I deliberately didn’t arrange any photoshoots, I ended up taking far fewer photos than I would normally, and only one or two outside the masquerade. I must confess it felt strangely ‘liberating’ not to be behind a camera all the time.

Normal service will no doubt be resumed for Minami 2018.
